Hello my name is Nwasom Bianze and I am the founder of Bariboost bariatric multivitamin.
Bariboost became a reality months after I had Roux-en-Y gastric bypass in August 2022. Following my discharge from hospital, I was advised to take 2 x regular multivitamin plus a separate iron, folic acid, vitamin D, and calcium plus a three monthly vitamin B12 injection. I quickly realised that the recommended dose of vitamins and minerals for people who have had bariatric surgery was not going to be met by the bottle of regular multivitamins from the local supermarket or pharmacy.
While there are a wide range of multivitamin and mineral supplements available over the counter (OTC), their composition varies widely, and do not contain sufficient vitamins and minerals as recommended in the British Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Society (BOMSS) Nutritional Guidance on micronutrient replacement for patients undergoing bariatric surgery. Consequently, many OTC multivitamins will have to be doubled up and taken with separate iron, folic acid, vitamin D, and calcium to meet the recommended bariatric dose of vitamins and minerals.
Multiple google search for a bariatric multivitamin in the UK that met the BOMSS guidelines showed there weren’t any bariatric specific multivitamins being produced here in UK. With a desire to change this and my background as a pharmacist, I decided to make a multivitamin specifically made for patients like me after bariatric surgery. Using data and guidance provided by BOMSS, Bariboost was developed .
