Why Bariboost exists
After bariatric surgery, things don’t just change physically — everyday routines change too.
You eat differently, your body absorbs nutrients differently, and even something as simple as taking vitamins can quickly feel confusing or overwhelming.
This is something many people notice early on, and it’s not always explained in a way that feels clear or manageable.
My story
My name is Nwasom, and I’m a UK‑registered pharmacist who has also had bariatric surgery.
After my Roux‑en‑Y gastric bypass in August 2022, I was advised to take multiple supplements every day — a standard multivitamin alongside separate iron, folic acid, vitamin D, calcium, and regular vitamin B12 injections.
Very quickly, this became difficult to manage.
Not because the advice was wrong, but because the routine felt complex and hard to keep up with day to day.
What I realised
From a professional perspective, I could see that many standard multivitamins available in the UK do not meet the levels recommended for people after bariatric surgery.
From personal experience, I could also see how confusing it was to try and piece everything together.
Most options required a “mix and match” approach — combining different products just to meet basic nutritional needs.
Why I created Bariboost
I wanted to simplify this.
Using guidance from the British Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Society (BOMSS), Bariboost was developed to bring essential nutrients together in a way that supports life after surgery.
The aim wasn’t to replace clinical advice, but to make it easier to follow in real life.
What Bariboost stands for
Bariboost is built around a simple idea:
- Keep things clear
- Keep things manageable
- Support people in a way that fits everyday life
It combines clinical understanding with lived experience, so that what works in theory can also work in practice.
How this site helps
Bariboost isn’t just about supplements.
It’s also about understanding what happens after surgery in a way that feels calm, simple, and reassuring.
The content across this site is designed to help make sense of:
- changes in your body
- new routines
- common questions and uncertainties
So that things feel easier to understand and manage over time.
Support beyond information
For many people, understanding what’s happening is only one part of the journey.
Having something that makes daily routines easier, or a place where you can see how others are experiencing things, can make a big difference over time.
Bariboost brings this together in a simple, supportive way.
- A bariatric multivitamin designed to simplify daily supplementation
- A community space (The Porch) where people can share and learn from real experiences
- Bariboost Support for those who want more structure and guidance day to day
Each part is there to help make things feel clearer, more manageable, and easier to stay consistent with.
What this is all aimed at
The aim is simple:
To make life after bariatric surgery easier to understand and easier to manage day to day.
That might mean:
- simplifying routines
- making things feel clearer
- or providing support that fits into real life
Everything is built around helping that adjustment feel more manageable over time.
A combined perspective
Everything you’ll find here is shaped by two things:
- Clinical understanding as a pharmacist
- Lived experience of bariatric surgery
This combination helps ensure that information is both accurate and relevant to real life.
